IconWelcome to the Hoffmann Foundation for Autism

The Autism Hub - The Autism HubThe Hoffmann Foundation for Autism (HFFA) is a registered charity that has been working to improve the lives of people with autism for over 50 years. In 1955 Alice Hoffmann founded a school for children who were excluded from main stream education and in the course of time, the school became a day centre providing education for adults with autism, and the charity expanded its services to provide residential accommodation. We are now developing a multi-disciplinary approach binding together our expert staff teams and developing new services dedicated to promoting independent living for people with autism.

The Hoffmann Foundation focuses at all times on the needs of people with autism, seeking how to improve individual lives and extend a hand to others struggling to cope in a world of limited services and support.

Our approach is from an equality and human rights perspective; that people with autism should enjoy on an equal basis the same rights as everyone else.

Hoffmann Foundation for Autism is a dynamic forward-thinking organisation, with skilled staff from a variety of backgrounds, with a range of work and life experiences.

We aim to be responsive to the changing needs of service users and demands of all our stakeholders, including central government, the health service and local authorities.

The Future

The organisation is currently restructuring itself to be ready for the new challenges and opportunities ahead, working smarter, utilising its financial and staff resources better, investing in service development, and ensuring our mission is relevant to support people with autism in the twenty first century.

We are currently developing new services to improve the quality of support to people with autism commencing with the opening of our first “Autism Hub” in 2010. This symbolises our intentions for the future: providing world class services; working collaboratively to make the voluntary sector stronger; changing attitudes through information and training; and, working together to strengthen the voice of people with autism.

In 2010 HFFA will:

• open its first “Autism Hub”, a dynamic building project providing creative, social, educational, employment and leisure opportunities staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of learning support workers, outreach and supported living teams and psychologists
• create a new department, merging the outreach and supported living teams that will develop new opportunities for people with autism to live independently
• expand the outreach service to all London boroughs, recruiting more staff, and developing advice and advocacy services
• explore partnerships with housing associations to provide an expanded supported living service for those with moderate support needs, recruiting more staff as necessary
• research support to set up additional Autism Hubs in other areas to provide educational, creative, social and leisure opportunities, and support services that promote independent living for people with autism
• will explore opportunities to expand residential care where demand exists
• focus psychology support to our service users
• establish an Autism Support Network for public sector workers who need information and support about adults with autism
• publish a monthly free enewsletter “Focus on Autism”
• establish new policy and information function
• develop a new training programme focusing on adults with autism.

iconObama on autism

The US President adds his support for research into and wider public awareness of Autistic Spectrum Disorders

Description

"We must build a world free of unnecessary barriers, stereotypes, and discrimination. Policies must be developed, attitudes must be shaped, and we must ensure that everyone has the chance to live independently as full citizens in their communities. For too long, the needs of people and families living with autism have gone unrecognized and underappreciated.

That is why my Administration supports increased funding for autism research, treatment, screenings, public awareness, and services for ASD. We must also remember that children with autism become adults with autism who deserve our support, our respect, and the opportunity to fulfill their potential."
