Residents

Louise at workThe residents: currently three men and three woman, whose average age is 40, have a range of support needs including mental health problems, mild learning disabilities and autism.

Residents are fully involved in the day to day management of the unit and their personal lives, as well as discussing issues at their monthly residents' forum.

All of our service users are on the Brent Advocacy Group, which meets every two weeks to give a voice to those with learning disabilities. All the residents have advocates provided by Brent who support them with issues such as finance, rights, and how to make a complaint.

One service user is on the Brent Partnership Board, which brings together health and social care in the borough, taking account of service users' views on the kinds of day care and residential homes they want. We are also very fortunate to have full support from the Brent Community Support Team in times of crisis.

Leisure activities

Leisure activities feature highly on the agenda. These include: pub visits, bowling, cinema and many trips out to shows and films. All the residents enjoy annual holidays, both in the UK and abroad. They also use the local college for hair and nail care, aromatherapy and massage.

The users also attend various classes at the local college these include English, maths, computer studies, drama & dance, needlework & craft, and horticulture.

The team is supported by our autism manager and consultant who provides specialist advice around service users' needs and behaviour management.
