Support Worker - Marriott Road

Responsible to: Service Manager
Hours: 38 hours per week.
Salary:  £17,191.20 per annum

Job Summary

To work as part of a team to support adults with Autism Spectrum Condition and/or learning disabilities to reach their full potential both at home and in the community and provide support with personal care, as appropriate.


  1. To participate in the planning, implementation, monitoring and review of personal development plans & person centred plans, taking account of their needs
  2. To provide assistance with personal care where appropriate
  3. To participate in service user risk assessments both at home and in the community
  4. To help organise and plan reviews and attend meetings
  5. To actively encourage service users to meet new people where appropriate and encounter new situations
  6. To ensure that the service meets the cultural needs of the individual user
  7. To account for any petty cash transactions undertaken
  8. To actively encourage service users to have contact with family and friends, where appropriate
  9. To maintain service users’ records in line with organisational policies
  10. To accompany service users in community activities
  11. To support service users in following housing management policies and procedures
  12. To support service users with their day to day financial matters
  13. To support service users in the management of their own personal care
  14. To encourage service users to handle and plan preparation/consumption of meals and snacks and to implement strategies to manage excessive eating
  15. To undertake domestic duties as appropriate including cleaning, cooking and shopping
  16. To actively encourage service users to participate in independent living activities in line with their service user plan
  17. To work with the behavioural team to support users in managing challenging behaviour
  18. To attend and contribute to staff meetings, workshops, training courses, conferences and seminars as and when appropriate
  19. To attend regular supervision meetings with the line manager
  20. To understand and observe the need for confidentiality
  21. To report immediately to a line manager any incident, suspicion or sign of physical, verbal, mental, sexual or financial abuse of a service user
  22. To act at all times in accordance with Hoffmann Foundation for Autism policies and procedures, especially equal opportunities, confidentiality and health and safety
  23. To undertake any other reasonable duties required by the Service Manager

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in verbal and written forms (Essential)
  • A driver who can take the people we support out into the community (Essential)
    Able to make a positive contribution to team-working (Essential)
  • Empathetic understanding of people with learning disabilities/autism (Essential)
  • Ability to view situations objectively and manage conflict (Essential)
  • Ability to organise your own time (Essential)
  • Ability to manage difficult and challenging behaviour using appropriate guidelines and interventions (Essential)
  • Ability to manage personal stress (Essential)
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends and be flexible (Essential)
  • Able to provide personal care (Essential)


Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience working with adults on the Autism Spectrum (Essential)
  • NVQ or QCF in Health & Social Care (Desirable)


  • Understanding of autism and learning disabilities (Essential)
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills (Essential)
  • Understanding and commitment to ordinary life principles (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of housing management policies (Desirable)
  • Basic IT skills (Essential)
